Run For Marley

On Sunday 11th of March a certain lady made a new record with us for being Marley’s hero! A mum of three, hard worker, amazing friend and now a marathon runner...

The weather was just horrendous on this day, I was in Lisbon with Marley myself this week and I knew how bad it was. When we were on the bridge leaving Lisbon it was actually shaking with the gusts of wind... I was trying to remain positive and motivating but I knew it wasn’t going to be easy.

As I sat in the car messaging Marie to see how she was feeling I heard on the radio that the marathon’s start position was being moved because of the severe weather warning... Throughout all this Marie kept her cool, knew what she was going to do and never doubted herself. Simply incredible.

During the last month Marie and her lovely husband Anthony had been working hard getting sponsorships and by the day of the marathon they have raised an amazing – 535 Euros. How amazing is that!!

She headed up to Lisbon with her family and kept me posted the whole way through. The only words of encouragement I could think of was the glass of wine we will be sharing together very soon! She managed the marathon despite the conditions with a fantastic time and I’m so proud to call her a friend.

I asked her to tell me a little bit about her experience for the blog:

“Nerves kicked in from the start as I knew the conditions were not good. However weather was better than I expected. All along the route I had people patting me on the back or giving me thumbs up saying “Forca Marley!” which did give me a boast. From 7km till 17km I was running in the driving wind and got caught in three showers which if I am honest hurt as the rain was icy cold and hard but it passed. My family were waiting at the finish which made it more special for me. Today I feel good legs feel fine just aching shoulders. But I am so happy to help a great cause”

I’m ever so grateful Marie and so blown away by your drive and go for it attitude. Every penny helps and your fundraising has really helped get us closer to our goal.  Not only that look at the awareness we are raising!

Thank you!

I just wanted to say a huge thank you for your generous donation. I am very overwhelmed by your kindness and don’t know how to thank you.

During times like these however it reveals to you how many wonderful people there are in the world and we are very grateful to have people wanting to help. Your family are certainly what I mean by that.

Marley is such a wonderful little boy and seeing him smile makes me so happy and you were a part in that.

We pray every day that he will recover quickly and be a true example of a real warrior. He’ll make you proud too!
