Cannabis For Children?

On the following day to writing this article Portugal voted in favour of a bill to legalize the use of cannabis for medicinal purposes. However the small print is yet to be released and my article and opinions still stand as I know it will be impossible for the treatment of children.

Nonetheless it’s a step in the right direction and cannabis will be able to be used for medical purposes when conventional medicine hasn’t worked or when conventional medicine has caused adverse reactions. I really doubt it will be very easy to persuade doctors to prescribe this over here and the cost is going to be astronomical. BUT baby steps.

It still won’t be easy for children like Marley, as there is no way CBD will be prescribed for minors...

Breaking the law with cannabis oil to help your child... A dilemma that many carers and parents have faced with the ongoing debate into the use of CBD. In some cases with the looming fear that keeping a medicine from those who suffer may result in death whilst risking criminal offense due to their treatment choice.

Cannabidiol (CBD) refers to Cannabis oil with a high content ratio of CBD which promotes general good health and well-being, benefits neurological disorders, and treats various ailments. CBD is a natural anti-inflammatory and effectively treats the pain associated with inflammation. CBD is not psychoactive, doesn’t get you ‘high’, but unlike the nutrient supplement Hemp CBD products sold at health shops, it has THC in it in order to render it effective. Without THC it is useless – also called the entourage effect.

What can CBD treat?

CBD cannabis oil, taken alone, effectively treats the following conditions;

• General Health Wellbeing

• Depression

• Anxiety

• Stress

• Hypertension (High Blood Pressure)

• Diabetes

• Cancer Prevention

• Cancer Remission

• Heart Disease

Part of Marley’s condition causes him to suffer from fits and absences. Therefore over the years CBD oil has been recommended to me time and time again by worried friends and relatives. I have always been rather cautious with the idea, purely through lack of information. As soon as I started to research more I saw how many vulnerable children rely on this controversial treatment to stay alive.

Many children suffer from severe epilepsy which can result in tens to hundreds of seizures a day. I know from personal experience anti epileptic drugs can make your child like a zombie... They have in one way or another drained a lot of life from Marley in the past.

There is nothing more terrifying than seeing your child fit. At first you almost wonder if the child is having you on as it seems as if they are jerking or loudly burping. I remember telling Marley off one of the first times he fell head first in a shopping cart! Then you realize it isn’t a game or something you can magically fix for them.

For many parents who have beautifully healthy children but with such a debilitating medical issue CBT can be a saviour in many ways. Many parents fail to discover a medication capable of curing symptoms and become frustrated with the inadequacy of treatments available. So thousands of desperate parents have started importing or buying CBD oil locally and found that is has exhibited phenomenal results. By using the CBD oil in just days treating what years of pharmacological experimentation could never achieve.

Friends and loved ones who are parents and users of CBD have come to me to express the stark turnaround that the organic medicine provided. Many of them now spokesmen for the herbs healing properties. But my fear derives from the prohibition of the medicine which in some cases is many people’s only hope for any resemblance of a normal life.

I have poured over documents of the validity of the medical efficacy of cannabis. I’ve also read just as many horror stories of parents branded with criminal offenses for administering an unapproved drug to a child. In many places medicinal cannabis is currently legal but in others change still hasn’t occurred. From what I can understand if you can get through the melodramatic, legal rigmarole involved in obtaining the cannabis which is completely pure and safe you are unlikely to be able to afford the running costs of medicating with cannabis. Realistically the pharmaceutical branded option is more realistic for most. The current case in Portugal – even with the law approved, what next?

The paramount issue, in my mind, is that in most countries on the planet marijuana is still the villainous anti-medicine attached to heavy stigma and god-forbid that you were to ever encounter a situation that requires it... But I now find myself with this predicament.

The law should be protecting our interests. Is it in my interest to give him untested medicine? I hold so much anger over the miscarriage of legal integrity in the health system anyway I don’t want my past to affect my opinion on this debate now. Which is why I turned to writing about it. A call for all my readers to let me know their opinion, pro or con on the use of medicinal cannabis?

I constantly ask myself why should I be dictated by the government who uphold these standards of law and justice presenting a satirical slap of offense to those seeking to medicate their suffering children with cannabis? It plays in my head when they don’t legalize something that is proved to be effective how can a panel of well-educated men and women decide in their right mind that it is acceptable to use the poppy to manufacture drugs like Morphine or coca to manufacture drugs like Lignocaine. But I’m terrified to try and ease pain and suffering by using CBD oil?

Potential Benefits...

From my research I saw CBD can be used for treating children with ailments, including;

• ADHD

• ADD

• Epilepsy

• Seizure Control

• Autism

• Cerebral Palsy

• Asthma

And so much more...

So is it fair for me to pump Marley full of highly toxic, potentially fatal barbiturates and benzodiazepines and not treat him with an organic, non-lethal compound? Or is there still too much stigma for me to risk it...

I believe more than anything no child should suffer. But what is the overall answer? Do I just sound like a criminal sympathizer... So let’s hope with these new steps for CBD in Portugal its positive effects will make it easier for children to get the prescriptions which would benefit them too in time...

Food for thought and I’d love to know your feedback!
